What have we been up to?

w/e 10 Nov: The highlight of the week was our first visit to forest school!

This was a great success, the children listened well to instructions and had an amazing time (even the adults had fun!)

w/e 17 Nov: And what an exciting time we had at forest school! We made stick swords and weather potions, along with playing lots of games and exploring the wood – we brought some very tired children back (and adults!!).

w/e 24 Nov: We had another successful visit to forest school on Friday, where the children made leaf crowns (inspired by our fascination of leaves throughout the week!)

We also made clay hedgehogs ???? along with our usual games and a very interesting bug hunt!

w/e 1 Dec: The weather was kind to us on Friday for our forest school visit!

We had another wonderful day, this week we made bird feeders (made from orange skins filled with lard and seed, we then hung them on the trees in the forest!

We also made a tree swing which the children absolutely loved and we also found a perfect arm for our snowman ⛄ so he is now complete!

w/e 8 Dec: What wonderful weather for our forest school!

They all had great fun this week making clay reindeers, wooden Santas and the usual games and bear hunt!

This coming Friday is our last forest school for a while and it’s going to be very exciting as we will be toasting marshmallows after listening very carefully to the instructions given!

w/e 15 Dec: It was the last forest school till later next year!

It was wonderful as the children all listened well to instructions and really enjoyed the fire pit and roasting marshmallows!!

We’ve recently adopted ‘In The Moment Planning’!

In The Moment Planning (ITMP) is all about seizing the moment to facilitate a child’s own learning. Our staff have undergone professional training with Anna Ephgrave to become skilled ITMP practitioners, capable of drawing out children’s knowledge and building on it, then and there (in the moment).

Parents are encouraged to watch this short video which explains the basic theory behind how it is better for our children to learn in a way that interests them.

ITMP allows every child at Sherington Pre-School to be engaged in purposeful activity, and to feel in control as they are allowed to choose their own activities.

Progress and development occur when a child’s brain is most active. This happens when they are able to pursue their own interests and become deeply involved in their chosen activity.

Our staff know the children very well, and know when to “seize” a teachable moment and when to stand back and observe. Parents are able to view their child’s progress updates on Tapestry.
