Our programme supports children to develop:

  • knowledge of how to handle books and that they can be a source of stories and information;
  • making their own attempts at mark making
  • knowledge of the purposes for which we use writing
  • understanding when talking with others about what they have read

Want to give Your Child a head start?

The Parent/Teacher Guide provides background information on the Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar programme and also suggests products that would be suitable for use at home.

We regularly take the children to visit the Library Bus, which comes to Sherington every other Thursday. Click here to download the timetable.

We use the Jolly Phonics system to develop early literacy skills. This child-centred, multi-sensory approache makes learning fun and easy.

Letter sounds are taught in this order to begin with: s.a.p.t.l.n through brief stories and rhymes, then through songs and letter sounds. We then we introduce the image of those letters to build visual recoginition.
