Expressive Arts and Design

Our programme supports children to develop:

  • the use of paint, materials, music, dance, words, stories and role-play to express their ideas and feelings; and
  • their interest in the way that paint, materials, music, dance, words, stories and role-play can be used to express ideas and feelings.

Following the EYFS Framework, children are given opportunties and encouragement to:

  • explore and play with a wide range of media and materials
  • share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology

During periods of Free Play, the children are able to visit the Craft Table, which is set out with a different activity every single day. Children are supervised while developing skills such as using scissors, but are left to choose their own colours, shapes and textures to create something as unique as they are.

Music is also built into our daily routine, with a group Sing-a-long every morning. For our Christmas Concert and End Of Term Assembly, the children practice songs to perform to a CD or piano accompaniment provided by one of our parents.
