Communication and Language

Language and Communication is one of the 3 prime areas of learning and development which we know are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

In accordance with the EYFS Statutory Framework, we provide our children with opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations

Our programme supports children to develop:

  • conversational skills with one other person, in small groups and in large groups to talk with and listen to others;
  • their vocabulary by learning the meaning of – and being able to use – new words;
  • their ability to use words to describe their experiences;
  • their knowledge of the sounds and letters that make up the words we use;
  • their ability to listen to, and talk about, stories.
